How is your sleep schedule?

Many hackers online seem to live a nocturnal life; we used to call them "night crew" on Twitter in the early 2010s. The regularity of bad sleep schedules with hackers is notable enough to warrant mentions in the Jargon File[1][2].

Tajiri Satoshi, creator of Pokemon, has a well-documented bad sleep schedule: he sleeps 12 hours, then works for 24.

I've long struggled with falling asleep. Part of it may be due to the fact that I had chronic, vivid, intense nightmares all my life, when I do dream.

Lately, I've been falling asleep around dawn and waking up around noon. Maybe I average 4 hours of sleep a night when all-nighters are factored in.

In the initial insomniac phase (16 hours awake - 20 hours awake), I feel a lot of creative energy, but definitely notice my short-term memory being affected; as the time stretches on, I have to drink more water and eat more food than usual. Feelings of antisociality come. If the time awake is extended (25-30 hours), I start having delusional thinking with religious/paranormal tones; it never gets out of hand and I realize it's irregular, so it's more fun than anything.

My record is 100+ hours up without the aid of drugs.

ive gone thru phases of barely sleeping, phases of sleeping 12+ hrs a day, phases of waking up every day at 2am and going to bed at 9pm and feeling great, phases of never being able to sleep while it's dark out... my bodies fucked.

I've had a non-24-hour sleep-wake pattern since becoming a shut-in back in 2008. I slowly drift around the clock until I get back to where I started after a week or two.

About 10 years ago I decided to measure my sleep pattern for a year, and found that my average wake+sleep time per "day" was around 26 hours long on average, with the occasional day being much longer or much shorter. That's mostly remained true to this day, although I don't have as many super long or super short days anymore.

When it comes to personal "bests", I managed to stay awake for 76 hours back in 2014 without drugs or caffeine.

How do you cope with 9-5 activity in those hours when you go off-phase?

I don't; I've been semi-NEET since 2008, 100% NEET since 2011.

On the occasional times I've had to do something at a certain time while my sleep pattern is the wrong way around; very poorly.

I have been sleeping worse since the start of covid since my University closed down, it kind of kept my sleep pattern in check. Now I just drift from day to night to day, time moves different when you don't have a real rhythm. The last couple months feel like strange dream looking back.
